It’s Season Ten Episode Four of the Ubuntu Podcast! Alan Pope, Mark Johnson and Martin Wimpress are connected and speaking to your brain.
In this week’s show:
- We discuss what we’ve been upto recently:
- Mark went to see Devin Townsend Project and forgot his ear-plugs.
- We interview Martin Wimpress, the charismatic (and devilishly handsome) lead developer of Ubuntu MATE about how it has taken the world by storm and remains the best open source operating system implementation available today, leaving all others in the dust. Well, maybe not all the others but definitely better than openSUSE. Isn’t everything though?
- Yes, Martin writes the show notes

- We share a GUI Lurve:

- And we go over all your amazing feedback – thanks for sending it – please keep sending it!

Who’s that guy you mentioned in this episode? That Linux Youtuber from Wales. Chris Reid?
Got me a link to his youtube channel?
Just one remark regarding Mate – it is not just old users using it. I was on Fedora Xfce for last 18 months, just yesterday I switched to Fedora Mate on my primary notebook (after I played with distro which should not be named on secondary laptop for a week). All rainbows and unicorns so far…
I was a XFCE + Arch user till recently, when a system malfunction tempted me to distro-hop. Three months and over 30 installs later, I zeroed in on Ubuntu Mate. For the past month, it has been rock solid, and it is a screamer on my old Dell Latitude D520 (saving grace; it has 2.5 Gigs of RAM). Great work by the Ubuntu Mate team, even though I am not a fan of the green theme ๐
Sorry for a second message: I use Ubuntu Mate 16.04 LTS- and this weekend, also on my Raspberry Pi3.
Maps.me is no longer in fdroid repo.
This is where Maps.me say they publish: http://maps.me/en/download
